 Jahangirngar University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) has stood by flood affected people, distributing a total of TK 10 lakhs as relief money among 500 families in Gaibandha and Kurigram district. A team of the university teachers visited Gaibandha district on October 5 and distributed a total of TK 4 lakhs among 200 flood affected families in Fazlupur and Fulchari union, General Secretary of JUTA Professor Farid Ahmed told on Sunday. On October 6, they visited Kurigram district and provided a total of TK 6 lakhs to 300 families of Vogdanga union there, he added. He continued, “All teachers of the university donated money equivalent to one-day salary amounting TK 10 lakhs. We visited the flood-hit areas in two districts and distributed the money among the affected families”.

Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), Gaibandha district unit has taken up a programme to disburse cash grant of Taka 80.40 lakh among 2010 flood affected families of the district very soon to mitigate their sufferings. The people of Kapasia, Bharatkhali, Horirampur and Mohimaganthe unions were seriously affected by the flood and their sorrows knew no bounds. Many of them took shelter on nearby embankments leaving their houses and passed their days with hardships. Cash grant of Tk 22.80 lakh would be distributed to 570 flood victims of Kapasia union under Sundarganj upazila, Tk 20.80 lakh to 520 victims of Bharatkhali union under Shaghata upazila, Tk 18.40 lakh to Horirampur and Mohimaganj unions each under Gobindaganj upazila, said Biplab Biswas, unit level officer of BDRCS. The survey activities by the volunteers of the unit had already been completed and the cash grant would be disbursed to the selected beneficiaries of the unions very soon, said secretary of the unit Rezaul Karim Reza. Each of the beneficiaries would get Tk 4,000 from the BDRCS, district unit, immediately, he also said.
