Non-Govt Primary Teachers Association
A discussion organised by Non-Government Primary Teachers Association was held in the auditorium of Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) in the city on Thursday. State Minister for LGRD Md Mashiur Rahman Ranga was present as the chief guest. While speaking Ranga said achievements in primary education have been
acclaimed internationally as the government has implemented various effective programmes to ensure universal access to education. “Enrolment in primary education has increased significantly as a result of sincere efforts of the government” he added.
Ranga said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman nationalized 36,160 primary schools to ensure universal access to education.”It was really an ambitious and courageous initiative as nationalization of such a huge number of primary schools was a very tough step for a war-torn country,” he said. Following Bangabandhu’s footsteps, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina nationalized nearly 26,193 non-government primary schools during her tenure, Ranga added. The function was also addressed, among others, by Tipu Sultan, MP, President of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) Shafiqur Rahman and teachers. President of the association Md Mamunur Rashid presided over the event.
Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal
Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) proposed to the Election Commission (EC) fixing ceiling of expenditure at Taka 10 lakh for parliamentary polls. The party came up with the proposal on Thursday at a dialogue with the EC as part of the commission’s ongoing talks with registered political parties at the Nirbachan Bhaban at Agargaon with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda in the chair. A 14-member delegation led by BSD General Secretary Khalequzzaman joined the dialogue. Election Commissioners Mahbub Talukdar, Md. Rafiqul Islam, Kabita Khanam and Brigadier General (Retd) Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury and Acting Secretary of EC Secretariat Helaluddin Ahmed were present on the occasion. BSD demanded keeping 100 seats for women in parliament. They also suggested separate law and budget for the Election Commission, fixing the amount of deposit money at Taka 5,000 for parliamentary polls and controlling black money, muscle power, fundamentalism and localism in the polls.
