Dhaka University Alumni Association
The 69th founding anniversary of Dhaka University Alumni Association (DUAA) will be celebrated on October 1 on the campus. Addressing a press conference at Alumni Floor of Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban, DUAA President AK Azad disclosed this on Sunday and said the main programme marking the anniversary will be held at the Alumni Floor. Finance Minister and former president of the association Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will be present at the function as the chief guest while DU Vice-Chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman will attend as the special guest, Azad said. Six Emeritus Professors of the University and founding president of the association will be conferred DUAA Gold Medal-2017 at the function, president of the association said. The gold medal recipients are- emeritus professors Dr Sultana Sarwat Ara Zaman of Institute of Education and Research, Dr Abdul Matin of Philosophy department, Dr Serajul Islam Chowdhury of English department, Dr Anisuzzaman of Bangla department, Dr Nazma Chowdhury of women and gender studies and Dr Abul Kalam azad Chowdhury and founding president of the association former Justice Md Ibrahim (posthumous).
Jatiya Ganotantrik League
A rally in observance of World Rivers Day organised by Jatiya Ganotantrik League was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Sunday. In the programme the speakers demanded to protect all rivers in Bangladesh. They also called upon authorities concerned to resist river erosion and maintain navigability of all rivers. The speakers stressed upon efforts to maintain navigability of all rivers in Bangladesh through Teesta Agreement. The function was addressed, among others, by Vice-President of the Jatiya Press Club journalist Azizul Islam Bhuiyan, Awami League leader ASM Mostofa Kamal, President of Krishak Proja Party Sirajul Islam, President of Bangladesh Ganotantrik Mukti Andolon Ashraf Ali Hawlader, Secretary General of Jatiya Swadhinata Party Mizanur Rahman Mizu, President of Muktijoddha Palli Society Alamgir Sheikh and General Secretary of the organisation Samir Ranjan Das. President of the organisation MA Jalil presided over the event.
