Gunijon Smriti Sangsad
A memorial meeting on late journalist and labour leader Nazrul Islam Renu organised by Gunijon Smriti Sangsad was held at the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) auditorium in the city on Friday. In the programme the speakers paid rich tributes to Renu.The speakers said Nazrul was an active member of all labour movement. He played an active role in 69’s mass movement and the Liberation War in 1971, they added. Nazrul was an honest and dedicated journalist and a politician, they said, adding he will be remembered forever for his outstanding contributions to society. Nazrul, a retired senior journalist of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, died of a massive heart attack on July 24 at a hospital in Chittagong at the age of 71. He survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. The function was addressed, among others, by Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Joint Secretary General Amiya Ghotok Pulak, Dhaka Union of Journalist (DUJ) General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury, former General Secretary Quddus Affrad, JPC Joint Secretary Ilias Khan, Sangjuktta Sramik Federation President Mosaddek Hossain Swapan, General Secretary Moquaddem Hossain and Poet Hasan Hafiz. Sangjukta Sramik Federation Executive President Harunor Rashid Bhuiyan presided over the event.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal
A central committee meeting of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) was held at the seminar room of the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the city on Friday. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was seeing the country with peaceful and anti-militancy spectacles while BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was observing it with conspiratorial blinkers. The country had no choice but to progress by containing militancy, their patrons and coping with Myanmar at the eastern borders. He further said that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was weaving webs of conspiracy after 1975. He said the fight against militancy and their patrons and repatriating Rohingyas to their homeland would continue simultaneously with national development activities and preparation for the next general election. He said efforts to spread communalism by using the Rohingya issue was extremely dangerous.
