President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Central Committee Comrade Mujahidul Islam Selim and Comrade Mohammad Shah Alam in a joint statement on Sunday expressed deep condolence over the death of former President of Sylhet Zilla Committee (CPB) Comrade Badal Kar. The leaders said Comrade Badal played pioneering role in progressive movement in Sylhet. Badal also played key role in cultural arena in Sylhet, the leaders added. They extended profound sympathy to the bereaved family members. Badal died of cardiac arrest at the National Heart Foundation in Sylhet on Sunday morning.
Chhinnamul Mohila Samity
A three-day long disaster volunteer training workshop organised by Chhinnamul Mohila Samity, a reputed NGO was held at the training room of the Samity in Gaibandha town on Monday. While speaking the speakers urged the volunteers to stand beside the disastrous people on humanitarian ground during the natural calamities to reduce loss of lives and properties.”In the context, the training for the volunteers can help them to a great extent to strengthen their resilience capacity to face any catastrophe like flood, river erosion and cyclones”, they said. With the financial support of Oxfam in Bangladesh, the samity arranged the training under SKS Foundation-ELNHA (Empowering Local and National Humanitarian Actors) project. Superintendent of police M. Mashrukur Rahman Khaled addressed the function as the chief guest and district relief and rehabilitation officer AKM Idris Ali and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman were present as the special guests. It is not possible to stop flood and other natural calamities but it is possible to reduce the losses of lives and assets and mitigate the sufferings of the disaster victims in tolerable level if the volunteers work for the sufferers timely properly, the speakers said. A total of 36 disaster volunteers of Horipur union under Sundarganj upazila of the district are taking part in the training. Executive Director of the samity Murshidur Rahman Khan presided over the ceremony while coordinator Masudunnabi Lipon was the moderator.
