Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project
Inaugural ceremony of a-two day training programme on ‘System Administration on Linux Platform’ was held at UGC Auditorium yesterday. Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) under Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) in association with UGC has organized the professional training programme for the network engineers of public and private universities of the country and UGC officials. Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) was present as Chief Guest. Prof Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Member, UGC, presided over it. Dr. Gauranga Chandra Mohanta, ndc, Project Director of HEQEP was the Special Guest. A. K. M. Habibur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer, BdREN delivered the welcome address on the occasion. Addressing the programme, Prof Mannan said that enhancement of quality of higher education is multidimensional aspect. Only teaching in the classroom would not ensure quality of education. For this, implementation of a holistic approach is highly needed. UGC is working relentlessly for this.In his presidential speech, Prof Akhtar Hossain said that the training will enhance software use capacity of the participants. They will get basic technique on installation, configuration and operation of the open source operating system (Web server, Email server and DNS server) from the training programme. Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC, divisional heads, high-officials from UGC and BdREN, among others, were present on the occasion.
Rotary Club of Dhaka North West
“The Gift of Hearing” is a project of the Rotary Club of Dhaka North West in association with Starkey Hearing Foundation (SHF) USA and India, United Trust (UT), Viyellatex Group Ltd (VGL) and Centre for Zakat Management (CZM) for distribution of hearing aids and accessories to underprivileged people, mostly children of Bangladesh. Under the programme, about 550 underprivileged people- mostly children will be given hearing aid, battery ,moulds and other accessories . Starkey Hearing Foundation of USA has given the hearing aids and accessories under the programme ” So the World May Hear” . Starkey Hearing Foundation ,India is providing technical support for screening ,fitting and after care services, while the Rotary Club of Dhaka North West has organised the programme providing local logistics and support. The Rotary Club has forged alliance with eleven local NGOs to get hearing impaired recipients from all across Bangladesh, most of whom come from rural back ground. The two days distribution programme has started in the morning of 25th August at Emmanuell’s in Gulshan -1 and continued for the whole day yesterday . The recipients were earlier screened and selected by the technical team of Starkey Foundation India in March 2017 . A total of 14 technical persons from Starkey India with assistance from local Rotaractors and other volunteers have plans to distribute 450 hearing aids and accessories to the recipients in the fitting session today . Rest of the selected patients will be given the hearing aids and accessories today. The fitting programme will be followed up with three After Care Services within six months to check the efficacy of the devices and hands on training provided for proper use and maintenance of hearing aids.
