Bangladesh Noujan Sramik Federation
A press conference organised by Bangladesh Noujan Sramik Federation was held in the Conference Lounge of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Saturday. In the programme the leaders of the federation demanded to press home its 21-point demands including immediate unconditional release of 16 noujan employees from Indian jail and Bangladesh jail respectively. They demanded proper implementation of marine law. The leaders warned to forge greater movement if their demands are not met within July 23 next. General Secretary of the federation Chowdhury Ashikul Alam read out the written statement. The press conference was attended among others, by Vice-President of the federation Zennat Ali, its Joint General Secretary Abdul Wahab Master, Organising Secretary Afsar Hossain Chowdhury, Finance Secretary Habibullah Bahar, its Publicity Secretary Abul Kashem, Organising Secretary of Bangladesh Launch Labour Association Roufuzzaman Mintu and President of Dhaka Ghat Ancholik Committee Malek Master. President of the federation Shah Alam Bhuiyan presided over the event.

A seminar titled ‘e-Commerce Payments and Logistics’ jointly organised by Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) and Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) was held on Saturday at Lakeshore Hotel in the city. In the programme speakers said that e-commerce market in Bangladesh is expected to get a big boost in near future with double-digit growth per month but growth of this nascent industry is adversely affected due to the lack of appropriate e-payment and logistics framework in the country. In Bangladesh, 22 percent of 66 million internet users are engaged in online shopping, they said and suggested developing an appropriate e-payment and logistics framework to facilitate the e-commerce market. The seminar mainly highlighted the most common hindrances on the way of e-Commerce growth, investment opportunities in e-commerce ecosystem and recommendations for relevant policy makers. The function was addressed, among others, by State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank SM Moniruzzaman, President of BASIS Mustafa Jabbar, Vice-President of MCCI Golam Mainuddin, former President of BASIS Habibullah N Karim and Director of BASIS Mostafizur Rahman Sohel.
