Swadhinata Forum
A rally organised by Swadhinata Forum was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city at 11 am on Friday. In the programme the speakers demanded immediate release of BNP Vice-Chairman and also former minister Barkat Ullah Bulu and former Opposition Chief Whip Joynal Abedin Faruque. Distinguished politicians and citizens of the country participated in the function. Senior Joint Secretary General of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed was present at the rally as the chief guest, among others. BNP central leader and also President of Swadhinata Forum presided over the event.
WaterAid Bangladesh
An experience sharing workshop on ‘School Sanitation Programme in Rangpur Division: Achievements and What to Do’ organised by WaterAid Bangladesh was held at Begum Rokeya auditorium in Rangpur on Thursday. In the programme the speakers said fifty-one percent of schoolgirls currently use hygienic sanitary pads in working areas of WaterAid Bangladesh in Rangpur division while 86 percent schoolgirls used old clothes during menstruation only three years back. WaterAid Bangladesh organised the event to share experience of its ‘Wash in School’ programme in association with partner organisations involved with implementation of the programme at all the 58 upazilas of eight districts in Rangpur division. Speakers said narrating success of the ‘Wash in School’ programme in improving sanitation and pure drinking water facilities in schools to increase the presence of female students in classrooms. They opined that the situation has changed now in Rangpur where WaterAid Bangladesh has constructed hygienic sanitary latrines in 64 schools and madrashas for 27,544 female students and 1,062 teachers in only five months this year. The function was addressed, among others, by Deputy Speaker of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangshad Advocate Fazle Rabbi Miah.
