Diabetic Association of Bangladesh
The inauguration of Specialist Chamber Complex organised by Diabetic Association of Bangladesh was held at BIRDEM General Hospital in the city’s Shahbagh on Monday. The patients of the hospital will get quality treatment through this complex. Former Vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (BUET) and Treasurer of the association Professor MH Khan inaugurated the programme. The specialist physicians will advise the patients from 3 pm to 8 pm every day. The patients of diabetes, hormone, eurology, medicine, surgery, heart, kidney and other diseases will be able to get advice from the specialist physicians through this chamber complex. The programme was attended, among others, by President of the association Prof AK Azad Khan, its Secretary General Mohammad Saif Uddin, Joint Secretary General Prof Rashis-e-Mahbub, Joint Treasurer Shahidul Hasan, National Council Member of the association and Chairman of the Board of Management of BIRDEM Dr Sarwar Ali, Chief Co-ordinator Dr Mohammad Abdul Aziz and Director General of BIRDEM Prof Nazmun Nahar.
National Human Rights Commission
Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Kazi Reazul Hoque underscored the need for the involvement of the parliament members to eliminate child marriage and ensure fundamental human rights of the downtrodden people of the country. He came up with the observation on Sunday when he met with Chief Whip ASM Feroz at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the city. During the meeting, Hoque suggested ensuring opinion of the NHRC before enacting any law regarding child marriage. Chief Whip Feroz also stressed on keeping strict vigilance on the clause of the Child Marriage Act that has allowed marriage under 18 years in special case, so that the practice of child marriage could not set free massively. The Chief Whip assured the NHCR Chairman of providing all-out cooperation to make the orientation programme of Members of Parliament on elimination of early marriage a success.
