Dream Touch Foundation
An exchange of Eid and Iftar Mahfil with disable children and their families organised by Dream Touch Foundation was held in the VIP Lounge of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Friday. In the programme the speakers said today’s children are the future of tomorrow. It is the responsibility of the state to make congenial atmosphere to build the children as the worthy citizens of the country, they added. The state should ensure advantages of the children specially who are disabled. The speakers opined that media and society can play pioneering role in this regard. They called upon all to play role to make a society free from disparity. Executive Director of the foundation Farukul Islam conducted the function. The programme was addressed, among others, by former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission Dr Mizanur Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Prof Dr. Kamrul Hasan Khan, Columnist Syed Abul Maksud, Secretary General of Sandhani Foundation Prof Dr Manilal Aich Litu, Director of Human Resource Department of Islami Bank Hospital Dr ASM Zafarullah, and Vice-President of Bangladesh Shishu Kalyan Parishad Engineer M Azizul Islam. Disable people including Sharmi Roy, Sagir Hossain Khan and Asif Karim Patwari Rupam also addressed on the occasion. Chairman of the foundation Sabrina Rahman presided over the function.
Manobadhikar and Poribesh Andolan
Different organisations including Manobadhikar and Poribesh Andolan (MAPA), International Rivers and Blue Planet Initiative and Bangladesh Riverine People jointly organised a discussion on ‘International Rivers and Life’ at a hotel in Rangpur recently. In the programme the speakers said the list of river grabbers is being prepared to bring them under the law of the land. “Our river routes was 24 thousand kilometres long during liberation war of our country-the length of the river has already reduced by 18 thousand kilometres to five to six thousand kilometres now and we will never allow to reduce the length anymore,” the speakers added. They said, “Rivers tremendously assisted us during the War of Liberation and we have to work together to save those to ensure uninterrupted water flow and navigability round the year.” The programme was addressed, among others, by Chairman of the National River Commission and former Secretary Atharul Islam , River researchers Mahbub Siddique, Prof Shah Alam, Dr Mofizul Islam Mantu.
