Edotco Bangladesh Co. Ltd has distributed corrugated iron sheets to approximately 40 cyclone affected families in Shah Porir Dweep in Teknaf for rebuilding homes that were damaged by the natural disaster, says a press release. Rahul Chaudhary, Country Managing Director for Edotco Bangladesh said, “We make it a point to mitigate the damages and risks faced by the communities in the affected areas as much as we can as edotco’s commitment to Bangladesh extends beyond developing the telecommunications industry but also to ensuring it’s people receive the support when needed. We will be reaching out to the victims of Cyclone Mora to help rebuild homes that have been destroyed” Cyclone Mora hit Bangladesh on the 26th of May and has spread to at least eight districts thus far, affecting approximately 3 million people.
 University Grants Commission (UGC)
University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh at a meeting with UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan in the chair yesterday nominated four renowned researchers as UGC Professor for two years. The nominated UGC Professors were Professor Dr. M. Muhibur Rahman, Department of Chemistry, Dhaka University, Professor Dr. Md. Abul Mansur Chowdhury, Jamal Nazrul Islam Mathematics and Physical Science Research Centre, Chittagong University, Professor Selimur Rahman, Department of Hepatology, Bangabandhuy Shiekh Mujib Medical University and Professor Dr. M Alfaz Uddin, Department of Physics, Rajshahi University. According to UGC Professorship guideline, retired renowned researchers of Bangladesh are given UGC Professorship. The UGC Professor will recieve a monthly honorium, which shall be equivalent to the highest monthly salary of a selection grade professor. The UGC professor will be attached to a university or an approved research institution of his/her choice. The Commission also nominated 70 teachers out of 72 applicants from public universities and Government Colleges as UGC Ph.D Fellow this year. The number of UGC Ph.D Fellow was 50 last year where the number of applicants was 65. The amount of Fellowship has been increased to Tk. 15,000/- from 10,000/- per month. The duration of the fellowship is for three years. Prof Dr. Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah, Member, UGC, Prof Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Member, UGC, Prof Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali, Member, UGC and Professor Dr. Farzana Islam, Vice-Chancellor, Jahangirnagar University, Md. Shamsul Alam, Director, Research Support and Publication Division, among others were present on the meeting, says a press release.

International Program Office and Department of Environmental Science organised a Seminar on “Environmental Volunteering: Why it’s Worth Getting Involved” and “Entrepreneurship in Space” on Wednesday at the IUBAT Conference Hall on Wednesday , says a press release. Rafiqul Huq, Environmental Manager (Community Engagement) of Greening Australia, spoke on “Environmental Volunteering: Why it’s Worth Getting Involved”. Taofiq Noor Huq, PhD Candidate at the Australian Centre for Space Engineering Research at the University of New South Wales Sydney, Australia spoke on “Entrepreneurship in Space”. Prof Dr Md Abdul Jabber, Registrar, IUBAT University presided over the seminar. Dr Muhammad Rehan Dastagir, delivered the welcome address and Prof Dr Mohammad Ataur Rahman, gave to the vote of thanks. Associate Prof Mozaffar Alam Chowdhury, Director and Mazedur Rahman, International Program Officer of International Program Office IUBAT University coordinated the seminar. Distinguished Board of Governors, Chairs, Coordinators, and Faculties of different Colleges and Departments, Staffs, and Students of IUBAT University, officers and staff and students attend the seminar.
