Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal
A pre-iftar meeting organised by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) was held at Mirpur in the city on Thursday. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said that Khaleda Zia was out to subvert the democracy prevailing in the country. “She does not want democracy, she wants to seize power through the back door, ” he said. The minister said that elections are not the goal of Khaleda Zia, she wants to create anarchy by putting forward new and vague proposals every day. “Her real intent is to subvert the upcoming polls,” he said. “At a time when the country was moving ahead as a role model for South Asian countries Khaleda is out to undo all that,” he added. The minister said that it was the responsibility of the nation to weed out these conspirators. Other leaders of the organisation also spoke on the occasion.

The council of Tanti League, Dhaka City North and South units was held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in the city’s Ramna on the 13th instant. Awami League General Secretary and also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was present in the programme as the chief guest. While addressing Quader said horrific days will return like those in 2001 if BNP comes to power. “Don’t you remember the incidents of 2001? They (BNP) set fire to houses of leaders and activists of Awami League. BNP will be very terrible if they get power,” he told the council. He described the call for movement by BNP as lofty way of talking. “BNP committee has 596 leaders. They all together cannot bring out a procession. If leaders cannot take to street, how workers will do that?” he asked. Quader said BNP leaders watch Hindi serial on television after calling for movement. About BNP leader Moudud Ahmed’s eviction from Gulshan house, the AL General Secretary said, “The government did not do anything, he had to leave the house following a Supreme Court verdict.” The function was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of the organisation Khagendra Chandra Debnath and its Executive President Sadhana Das Gupta. Tanti League President Engineer Shawkat Ali presided over the event.
