Community Radio related two Initiatives of Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) has recognized as Champions in UN World Summit on the Information Society (UN WSIS) Prizes 2017, says a press release. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, Chairperson of Board of Trustees of Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) has received the UN WSIS Prizes 2017 Champion from Houlin Zhao, Secretary-General of UN International Telecommunication Union (ITU) on Tuesday at a ceremony at Geneva International Conference Centre, Switzerland as part of the annual UN WSIS Forum. International Telecommunication Union (ITU) announced 90 Champions of the prestigious World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes contest while the 18 Winners, out of these 90 Champions, has recognized at a ceremony at Geneva International Conference Centre(GICC). The champions projects are: Community Broadcasting Library (CBL) for Access to Information and Knowledge in Bangladesh, Project is supported by Free Press Unlimited & European Union. & English Language through Community Radio in Rural Bangladesh, Project Supported by American Centre, Dhaka, Bangladesh UN WSIS Prizes honor outstanding projects that leverage the power of information and communication technology (ICT) to accelerate socio-economic development. 345 ICT success stories from around the world were nominated for the Online Voting Phase (30 March – 30 April) following a comprehensive review by the Expert Group of 467 submitted projects submitted by the UN WSIS Stakeholder community. Based on the results of the intensive Online Voting Phase, which saw over 1.1 million votes cast by WSIS stakeholders, a selection of winning projects was made by the Expert Group.
Green Business School (GBS)
Green Business School (GBS) of Green University of Bangladesh (GUB) organised a seminar on “Post Budget Reflection on National Budget 2017-18” at its campus yesterday. The Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir presided over the programme while Prof Dr. Mustafizur Rahman, Distinguished fellow of CPD; Dr. Mohammad Fayyz Khan, Pro-Vice Chancellor of GUB; Prof M M Khan, Distinguished Professor; Lt Gen Md Mainul Islam (Retd), Registrar spoke as the Chief guest of honor.The seminar discussed various aspects of the National Budget 2017-18. Especially allocation for rising education sector, poverty alleviation, growth rate, inflation, implementation of the development programs etc. The seminar also observed that the allocation in the education sector is declining whereas the sector has witnessed a rapid growth with the increase of students, teachers and institutions, says a press release.
Barisal Bivag Samity
Barisal Bivag Samity hosted an Iftar party with the orphans and exchanged views at Panch Foron Restaurant at Motijheel in the city with Vice president of the Samity Golam Mutoza in the chair yesterday. The view exchange meeting was conducted among others by Justice Nizamul Haq , Justice Farid Ahmed , Justice Syed Md Ziaul Karim, Jebunnesa Jebu MP and former MP Nizam Uddin Ahmed . The function was conducted by General Secretary of the organization Ziaul Kabir Dulu, says a press release.
IUBAT
Department of Environmental Science of International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT ) has participated in the National Environmental Fair 2017 held at Agargaon in the city recently . It is a part of nationwide celebration of World Environmental Day (5th June) taken by government of Bangladesh through various environmental awareness building activities such as rally, competition and environmental fair. Honorable Prime minister Sheikh Hasina had opened the fair on 4th June, 2017. Various government and non-government organizations, Universities and companies were participated in the fair. The theme of World Environmental Day for the year 2017 is ‘Connecting People to nature – in the city and on the land, from the poles to the equator”. Our demo project in the fair was: Sustainable City by proper green spacing- Within 2050, approximately 70% people will live in the towns in the world. But unplanned urbanization in the developing world made it polluted, lifeless and unfavorable to live. Urban greenness could be increased by vertical growth and wider gap between buildings with maintaining a perfect Covered/Uncovered land ratio =20: 80 instead of 60:40 at present.
