Bangladesh Nari Mukti Kendra
A rally organised by Bangladesh Nari Mukti Kendra, central committee was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Sunday. In the programme the speakers demanded immediate cancellation of the special section 19 of ‘Early Marriage Resisting Law 2017’. They called upon all conscious citizens of the country to forge greater movement to meet its demands otherwise the existence of the women to be threatened. The function was addressed, among others, by Organising Secretary of the organisation Monideepa Bhattacharya, Office Secretary of the organisation’s city unit Eva Majumder and its Member Susmita Roy Supti. Central President of the organisation Seema Dutta presided over the event. After the rally a four-member delegation of the kendra led by Seema Dutta submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister’s office.
Power & Participation Research Center
A seminar on ‘Urban Health: Issues and Way Forward’ organised by Power and Participation Research Center (PPRC) was held at IDEB auditorium in the city on Sunday. State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Zahid Malik was present as the chief guest. While speaking Zahid called for taking multi-approach to protect urban health as well as to reach the health services at grassroots. He said Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made a remarkable progress in health sector as the country achieved targets of MDGs by reducing child and mother mortality rate, ensuring 100 vaccination and others initiatives. The government, he said, also did many infrastructural developments to provide better healthcare services to the common people. Hossain Zillur Rahman, Executive Chairman of PPRC, presented a survey report on ‘Citizen Views on the State of Health and Well-Being in Dhaka City’. The function was addressed, among others, by Gonoswasthaya Kendra Founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury, World Bank Lead Specialist in Health, Nutrition and Population Global Practice Ramesh Govindaraj, former Director General of Health services Dr MA Faiz and BIRDEM Director General Prof Nazmun Nahar.
