Dhaka University Debating Society
The concluding ceremony of the ’12th Nafiya Gazi Inter-Department Debate Competition’ organised by Dhka University Debating Society (DUDS) was held at DU Teacher-Student Center (TSC) on the 12th instant. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique was present as the chief guest. While speaking Arefin said debate competitions show the ways of finding the truth to build an intelligence and logic-based society. “By giving logics defending or opposing a proposal, we can find out the truth that helps us make a decision perceiving the reality”, he added. The VC urged the students to acquire knowledge remaining firm on truth and logic. Student teams from 46 departments of the university took part in the debate competition. The team of Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies Department became champion while the team of Political Science Department became runner up in the competition. Commemorating Nafiya, former student of DU Economics Department, who was killed in a road accident in 1991, DUDS organises the competition in every two years. The function was also addressed, among others, by former Chief Economist of Bangladesh Bank Heerupaksha Paul and Associate Editor of the Prothom Alo Anisul Haque. President of DUDS Rayhan Shanan presided over the event.
