A seminar on ‘UN Global Compacts & Climate Displacement: Bangladeshi CSOs Perspective’ organised by different organisations including EquityBD from Bangladesh, COAST, Platform on Disaster Displacement (PDD) from Switzerland and Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in CIRDAP Auditorium in the city’s Topkhana Road on Saturday. In the programme the speakers urged the government and civil society to work together for preparing the UN Global Compact on Migration and Refugees. The discussants said the UN General Assembly in 2016 adopted a resolution to prepare Global Compact on Migration and Refugees by the middle of 2018. In this regard consultations at international and regional levels have already been planned. They suggested that MoFA shouild coordinate with civil society to have effective dialogue. They said that climate displaced people should be termed as “environmental migrants”. The function was addressed, among others, by Rustam Ali Farazi MP, Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Huq and JU teacher Dr. Sharmind Neelormi. Sayed Aminul Haque from COAST presented the key note paper. The seminar was moderated by Rezaul Karim Chowdhury of EquityBD. Chairman of PKSF Dr. Qazi Kholiquzzaman presided over the event.
CNG Auto-Rickshaw, Mishuk Chalok O Sramik Union
A rally organised by Dhaka Zilla CNG Auto-Rickshaw, Mishuk Chalok O Sramik Union was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city recently. In the programme the leaders of the organisation demanded cancellation of all black laws which are against the interest of the employees of the union. They urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to take necessary initiatives for the cancellation of all black laws including capital punishment for the drivers from Road Transport Law-2017. The leaders also called upon all the employees of the union to be united to continue the movement until their demands are met. The programme was addressed, among others, by Vice-Presidents of the organisation Abdul Mannaf, Abdul Zabbar, Organising Secretary Noor Morshed, sramik leaders Saifur Rahman, Abdul Barek, Nasir and Sona Miah. Labour leaders Abul Hosain and Tazul Islam have expressed their solidarity with the movement of the organisation. President of the union Rustam Ali Sarder presided over the function while its General Secretary Sakhawat Hossain Dulal conducted it.
