Preetilata Trust
A discussion marking the 106th birth anniversary of Preetilata Waddedar who embraced martyrdom as the first female revolutionary nationalist in the anti-British movement organised jointly by Preetilata Trust and Bengali daily Bhorer Kagoj was held at the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Saturday. In the programme the speakers said ‘Preetilata is a great part of our history. Whenever we talk about independence movement, struggling life of Preetilata comes.’ The speakers called for instilling the ideology of Preetilata into young generation to build a non-communal country. Speakers said they took part in the Language Movement in 1952 imbued with the spirit of revolutionists like Preetilata. They said Preetilata will act as an inspiration to the youths for decades after decades. The speakers also demanded to observe the birth and death anniversary of Preetilata nationally. They called upon the young generation to take a lesson from the struggling life and works of Preetilata Waddedar.

A views exchange meeting between Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and Commonwealth Journalists Association (CJA) President Mahendra Ved along with members from Bangladesh and India was held at the minister’s Hare Road residence in the city on the 5th instant. While speaking Inu said the next parliamentary elections will be held in time as per the constitution. “If BNP comes to election, they will be welcomed, if they do not, it is up to them,” he added. The minister said in democracy political parties remain committed to the constitution. “However, BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s open declaration to disrupt the last parliamentary elections has proven BNP’s non-democratic nature,” the minister said. The function was attended among others, by Jayanta Roy Chowdhury and Kingshuk Roy from India and Shyamal Dutta, Parveen F Chowdhury, Osman Gani Mansur, M Zahid Newaz Khan, Aminur Rashid and Badal Roy from CJA Bangladesh chapter.
