The number of road accidents and casualties has been increased in the first four months in 2017 in comparison with the period in the previous year, says a press release. At least 1,552 people, including 421 women and children, were killed and 3,832 others were injured in 1,372 road crashes in last four months. The fatal accidents took place on the highways and national, inter-district and regional roads between January 1 and April 30 across the country, according to a report by the National Committee to Protect Shipping, Roads and Railways (NCPSRR). The report was prepared on the basis of 22 national dailies, 10 regional newspapers and eight online news portals and news agencies, said a NCPSRR press release. According to the report, a total of 1,314 people, including 383 women and children, lost lives and 3,393 others received injuries between January and April in 1,236 road mishaps in the previous year. The report shows that the rate of road accidents was increased by 11 percent in the first 4 months of the ongoing year in comparison with the same period of 2016 while the rate of death and injured were increased by 15.82% and 12.93% respectively. The report said that 416 people, including 54 women and 55 children, died and 1,012 others injured in 350 road mishaps in January of ongoing year. At least 427 people were killed and 1,094 others were injured in 372 accidents in February. Among the deceased 56 were women and 58 were children. In March 2017, a total of 362 people, including 49 women and 54 children, lost lives and 865 others received injuries in 330 road crashes. At least 320 accidents took place in April while 349 people killed and 861 others injured. Among the dead, 47 were women and 48 were children. The NCPSRR report said that 340 people, including 42 women and 57 children, died and 942 others injured in 295 road crashes in January 2016. In February, a total of 349 road crashes happened while 356 people lost lives and 1,120 others received injuries.
