Garments Sramik Trade Union Kendra
A rally organised by Garments Sramik Trade Union Kendra was held in front of Mukti Bhaban in the city’s Purana Palton on Monday marking the historic May Day. In the programme the speakers demanded to increase salary of the labour-class people including garments employees.They also demanded of the authority concerned to adopt necessary steps for the economic emancipation of the working class people. The programme was addressed, among others, by Adviser of the organisation Comrade Manjurul Ahsan Khan, President of the Communist Party of Bangladesh Comrade Mujahidul Islam Selim, General Secretary of the organisation Joly Talukder, its Executive President Kazi Ruhul Amin and labour leader Sadequr Rahman Shamim. A big procession brought out on the occasion paraded different streets of the city and terminated at the Central Shaheed Minar. President of the organisation Advocate Mantu Ghosh presided over the function.

A seminar on ‘Water-logging in Bangladesh’ organised by Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation (SPARRSO) was held at its conference room in the city on Sunday. In the programme the speakers suggested for increasing upstream water flow through construction of a barrage in the Padma river for solving water-logging problem in the country. ‘As country’s almost 77,300 hectares of arable land are facing water-logging problem during the period between 1973 and 2016, which has created mainly due to lack of upstream water flow in tributary rivers of the Padma,’ they added. Speakers said water-logging is a big challenge. So, we have to resolve the water-logging problem in a coordinated approach, saying that all the problems including the water-logging should to be addressed efficiently for building a prosperous Bangladesh. The function was addressed, among others, by Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Acting Secretary of Defense Ministry Akhter Hossen Bhuiyan and Prof Dr Mansur Rahman, Water and Flood Management Institute of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET). Chairman of the organisation Delwar Bakht presided over the event.
