Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh
A meeting of the central committee of the Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh was held at its office in the city’s Topkhana Road on Friday. In the programme the speakers called upon all democratic and patriotic forces to forge greater unity to ensure democratic future for the country and its people. They also urged the government and ruling party people to avoid communal forces for the greater interest of the country and its people for maintaining communal harmony. The meeting was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of the organisation Saiful Haque, its central committee members Akbar Khan, Abu Hasan Tipu, Ansar Ali Dulal, Rashida Begum, Mofazzal Hossain Mostak, Dr Khondkar Mosleuddin, Snigdha Sultana Eva and Khalilur Rahman. The speakers also called upon all to observe May Day as the International Solidarity Day of the labour class people. Central leader of the party Bahnishikha Jamali presided over the event.
Bangladesh Itihas Parishad
The annual international conference of Bangladesh Itihas Parishad was held Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of Dhaka University on Friday. Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon was present at the programme as the chief guest. While speaking Menon underscored the need for including the history of emergence of Bangladesh in curricula of colleges, public and private universities to glorify the history of the country. “The present generation is gradually becoming rootless because of their disinterest to history. They do not know glorious past of Bangalee nation. They have very little knowledge about the emergence of Bangladesh”, he said. But youths of the country, the minister said, led the Language Movement in 1952, Education Commission Movement in 1962, Mass Upsurge in 1969 and Liberation War in 1971 and created an independent Bangladesh.The minister said history is the mirror of time. “History must be known to realize the present. History upholds emergence, progress and flourishing of a nation,” he added. UGC Chairman Prof Abdul Mannan inaugurated the conference with Itihas Parishad Vice-President and DU Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman presided over the function.
