Sher-e-Bangla Jatiya Smrity Sangsad
A discussion on 55th death anniversary of Sher-e-Bangla AK Fazlul Haque organised jointly by Sher-e-Bangla Jatiya Smrity Sangsad, Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Party and Bishwa Bangalee Sammelon was held at the premises of Sher-e-Bangla’s mazar in the city on Thursday. In the programme the speakers recalled the contributions of Sher-e-Bangla. Thay said Sher-e-Bangla was the spiritual son of non-communal thoughts and perceptions. He was the pioneer of democratic movement, they added. The function was addressed, among others, by Justine Munsurul Haque Chowdhury, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Vice-President of Bangladesh Krishak League Sheikh Mohammad Zahangir Alam, President of Barisal Bibhag Samity Siraj Uddin Ahmed, President of Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Party Farahnaj Haque Chowdhury, President of Sher-e-Bangla Foundation Advocate Fazlur Rahman and Secretary General of Jatiya Swadhinata Party Mizanur Rahman Mizu. President of the organisation and also Bishwa Bangalee Sammelon Poet Muhammad Abdul Khaleque presided over the programme.
Network of Aquaculture Centres
The 28th governing council meeting of the “Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA), an international and Inter-governmental organisation for development of sweet water fisheries of 19 Asia-pacific countries was held at a hotel in the city on the 25th instant. State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Narayan Chandra Chanda was present as the chief guest. While speaking Narayan underscored the need for undertaking sweet water fish farming or aquaculture and fisheries resource-based accurate management programme in the Asian-Pacific region.”Aquaculture and fisheries resource-based accurate management and effective measures are necessary in the Asia-Pacific region,” he said. The aquaculture centre in the region is playing a pivotal role in the rural development through balanced utilization of the fisheries resource including aquaculture, he said. The function was also addressed, among others, by Director General of NACA Cherdsak Virapat, Secretary of the Asia-Pacific region under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mahbubuzzaman and Director General of the Department of Fisheries (DoF) Syed Arif Azad. Fisheries and Livestock Secretary M Maksudul Hasan Khan presided over the event.
