Bangladesh Stroke Foundation
A new health-related organization under the name and style of “Bangladesh Stroke Foundation” was floated in the city’s Uttara on Saturday for facilitating rehabilitation of stroke patients.”The institution will provide free services to the stroke patients after emergency treatment,” said the founder of the foundation and Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Md Fazle Rabbi Mian. A view exchange meeting was held with Md Fazley Rabbi Mian in the chair at its office. Rabbi said the foundation would render services to the stroke patients in the country and asked the foundation members to hold more seminars and carry out campaign in upazila and union levels to make people aware of the disease.The function was addressed, among others, by Vice-Chairman of the foundation Dr Rashimul Haque Rimon, Advisor and also Vice-Principal of East West Medical College Dr Ferdous Rabbi and Businessman Julkar Shanin.
Mahiuddin Ahmed Smriti Sangsad
A memorial meeting on veteran Awami League leader and one of the organisers of the country’s Liberation War Mahiuddin Ahmed organised by Mahiuddin Ahmed Smriti Sangsad was held at Begum Sufia Kamal auditorium of the National Museum on Saturday in observance of the 20th death anniversary of the late leader. Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed was present as the chief guest. While speaking Tofail recalled the long political career of Mahiuddin Ahmed, the minister said he (Mahiuddin) was a trusted and close friend of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and he was involved in all democratic movements with Bangabandhu. Tofail also said that all political parties, including the BNP, would take part in the next general election by 2019 under the present government. “Sheikh Hasina would head as the Prime Minister during the election-hour government and there is no scope to go beyond this,” he told. Terming Bangladesh as a democratic and non-communal state, he said there is no room for communalism in this country. The function was addressed, among others, by Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, President of the Communist Party of Bangladesh Mujahidul Islam Selim and journalist Abed Khan.
