Online Press Unity
The annual general meeting of the Online Press Unity was held at the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Tuesday. In the meeting the leaders of the unity have reached a decision unanimously to hold the election of the unity on April 21 next at 10 am at its temporary office in the city’s Topkhana Road with the supervision of Election Commissioner Abul Kalam Azad. The function was addressed, among others, by advisers of the unity Kalam Fayezee, Rafique Nizam, Vice-Chairmen Shafiqul Islam, Shanta Farzana and Joint Secretary General Manir Zaman. Vice-Chairman of the organisation HR Shakil presided over the programme.
Bangladesh Krishak Federation
A rally organised jointly by Bangladesh Krishak Federation, Bangladesh Bhumihin Samity and Bangladesh Kishani Sabha was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Monday in observance of the International Peasants’ Struggle Day. In the rally the speakers demanded adequate compensation to the peasants of haor areas which were affected by flashflood. They also demanded for declaration of the flood-affected areas as disaster areas. The speakers also demanded to reform agriculture and land for saving the farmers. The peasants’ leaders demanded recognition of the labour of women peasants. They also demanded for introduction of agriculture insurance and pension scheme for the farmers. They demanded maternity allowance for women farmers. The programme was addressed, among others, by leader of Workers Party of Bangladesh Abul Hosain, General Secretary of Bangladesh Sramik Federation AAM Faiz Hossain, General Secretary of Samajtantrik Majdur Party Dr Shamsul Alam, President of Jago Bangladesh Garments Sramik Federation Baharane Sultan Bahar.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Kishani Sabha Arjuman Ara Begum and General Secretary of Bangladesh Bhasman Nari Sramik Union Jahanara Begum. President of the organisation Jayed Iqbal Khan presided over the event.
