Garments Sramik Trade Union Kendra
A rally organised by Garments Sramik Trade Union Kendra was held in front of the Jatiya Pres Club in the city on Saturday to meet its various demands including trial of those involved in Rana Plaza killings. In the programme the speakers demanded adequate compensations for the families of those who were killed and injured in Rana Plaza collapse and Tazrin Fashions fire incident. They also demanded rehabilitation of those who were paralysed in those accidents. The function was addressed, among others, by labour leader Sadequr Rahman Shamim, Executive President of the organisation Kazi Ruhul Amin, its General Secretary Joly Talukder, Organising Secretary KM Mintu, labour leaders MA Shaheen, Joynal Abedin and Women Affairs Secretary of the organisation Rehana Akhtar. Joint General Secretary of the organisation Iqbal Hossain conducted the rally. President of Garments Sramik Trade Union Kendra Advocate Montu Ghosh presided over the event.
Combined Writers’ Society
A book fair organised by Combined Writers’ Society (CWS) was held on the Public Library premises in Rangpur recently. In the programme the speakers said that book-reading habit always enhances knowledge by removing ignorance and immorality from the mindset of everybody to enlighten the society and common people as well as the nation as a whole. The CWS organised the book fair where 33 stalls have been set up by 16 publication houses including 13 from Dhaka and other literary organisations from Rangpur. The visitors purchased novels, story books and collections of poems, books for the children and other popular books which were displayed in the Ekushey Book Fair- 2017 in the capital city. Mayor of Rangpur Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu inaugurated the fair by cutting ribbon in the launching ceremony as the chief guest. The speakers said the book fair created interests among the common people, especially young generations, in book-reading, literary and cultural activities to enrich our cultural and literary heritage. Presided over by Convenor of the Book Fair Sayeed Sahedul Islam, its Member-Secretary Rezaul Karim Jiban moderated the ceremony participated by literary and cultural personalities, academicians, researchers and elite of the city.
