Bangladesh Police Service Association (BPSA) has expressed deep shock at the deaths of three law enforcement agency officials linked with the recent raid in a militant hideout in Sylhet. BPSA President M Asaduzzaman Mia, also Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), and the group’s General Secretary and Additional Police Commissioner M Manirul Islam, in a message on Friday, said “the sacrifices of the three officials have proved that each and every members of Bangladesh Police is firm to ensure the security of all people across the country.” The association leaders have also sought eternal peace for the deceased and conveyed their sympathy to the bereaved family members. Two police officials-court inspector of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Chowdhury M Abu Kaiser and Inspector Manirul Islam of Jalalabad Police Station- died in a bomb blast while participating in the operation at the militant den at Pathanpara Shibbari in Sylhet on March 25. Besides, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Intelligence Wing Chief Lt. Col Abul Kalam Azad, who suffered critically injury during the operation on the day, died at Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the city.

A ‘Children’s Art Competition and Prize Giving Ceremony’ on the occasion of 97th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman organised by Bangabandhu Foundation was held recently at New Model School and College in the city’s Dhanmondi. Railway Minister Mujibul Haque was present as the chief guest. While speaking Mujibul urged freedom fighters and other concerned to inform the real history of the 1971 Liberation War. “Let the new generation know the real history of Bangladesh So that, none can misguide them any way,” he added. Referring to different development activities of the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the minister also called upon new generation to contribute to building a ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by the Father of the Nation. He said the country is progressing under the charismatic and uncompromising leadership of Sheikh Hasina as it has already earned fame both at home and abroad. Lauding the overall activities of the Muktijoddha Foundation, Mujibul said, “It would help protect our history of Liberation War from the conspirators out to destroy the actual history of the country.” Later, the minister distributed awards among the winners of the art competition. President of the foundation Principal Gazi Delwar Hossain presided over the function.
