Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad
A view exchange meeting on ‘National Standard on Compensation for Labourers Injury and Death on Duty’ organised jointly by Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad (SKOP) and Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS) was held on the 21st instant at CIRDAP Auditorium in the city’s Topkhana Road. State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chunnu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Chunnu said that effective steps are underway to fix up national standard for proper compensating for the on duty injured or dead laborers. The existing labour laws would be made time-befitting further to ensure labour rights considering the country’s socio-economic condition, he told. The programme was addressed, among others, by worker leaders Roy Ramesh Chandra, Kamrul Ahsan, Amirul Haque Amin, Rajequzzaman Ratan, Sheikh Nurul Haque, Naimul Islam Jewel, Shamsunnahar Bhuiyan and Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmad. Advocate Mohammad Nazrul Islam, Advocacy officer of BILS, presented the keynote paper. President of Jatiya Sramik League Shukkur Mahmood presided over the function.
Bangladesh Dalit Parishad
A policy dialogue organised by Bangladesh Dalit Parishad (BDP) was held in the VIP Lounge of the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Tuesday in observance of the International Day against Racial Discrimination. In the programme the speakers demanded to form a parliamentary caucus and Dalit Commission to remove existing discriminations among casts, creeds and races in the country. They urged the government to constitute a parliamentary caucus in the Jatiya Sangsad comprising members of different political parties and enactment of laws removing all forms of discrimination from the society.They also demanded of the government to form a Dalit Commission for ensuring the rights of the backward people of the country. The function was addressed, among others, by Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Md Shahab Uddin, Rustom Ali Foraji, MP, Kazi Rozi, MP, Momtaz Begum, MP, Begum Lutfa Dalia, MP, Chairman of National Human Rights Commission Kazi Reazul Haque, eminent human rights activists Advocate Sultana Kamal, Dr Hamida Hossain, Khushi Kabir and Executive Director of Manusher Janno Foundation Shaheen Anam. Coordinator of the parishad Bikash Das presented the keynote speech while General Secretary of BDP Ashok Das gave vote of thanks. Adviser of BDP presided over the event.
