Rahe Bhander Kadhurkhil Darbar Sharif
A spiritual hub of Sufi practices Rahe Bhander Kadhurkhil Darbar Sharif organised a “Mahatma Sammelon” at the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Tuesday with day-long programmes.The darbar, based in Boalkhali of Chittagong, honoured ten distinguished persons for their outstanding contribution to society while the event was followed by a blood donation programme with the support of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. The distinguished persons who were honoured including UGC Chairman Prof. Abdul Mannan, BDjobs.com founder Fahim Mashrur, Chittagong Press Club’s ex-President Abu Sufian, lyricist and composer Hasan Matiur Rahman, Sufi singer Farida Parvin, freedom fighter S M Murtaza Hosain, Advocate Delwar Hosain Patwari, Dr. Shah Kawsar Mustafa Abul Ulayee and Sufi author Mustafa Zaman Abbasi. Incumbant Peer of Rahe Bhander Syed Zafar Sadek inaugurated the blood donation programme.

The inaugural ceremony of a 19-day Book Fair- 2017 organised by Sammilita Lekhok Samaj (SLS) was held on the Public Library premises in Rangpur on Monday. In the inaugural ceremony the speakers said that book-reading habit always enhances knowledge by removing ignorance and immorality from the mindset of everybody to enlighten the society and common people as well as the nation as a whole. The SLS organising the book fair where 33 stalls have been set up by 16 publication houses including 13 from Dhaka and other literary organisations from Rangpur. The visitors can purchase novels, story books and collections of poems, books for the children and other popular books recently displayed in the Ekushey Book Fair- 2017 in the capital city. Mayor of Rangpur Sarfuddin Ahmed Jhantu inaugurated the fair by cutting ribbon in the launching ceremony as the chief guest. The speakers said the book fair would be able to create interests among the common people, especially young generations, in book-reading, literary and cultural activities to enrich our cultural and literary heritage. Presided over by Convenor of Book Fair Sayeed Sahedul Islam, its Member-Secretary Rezaul Karim Jiban moderated the ceremony participated by literary and cultural personalities, academicians, researchers and elite of the city.
