Nari Unnayan Shakti (NUS)

Nari Unnayan Shakti (NUS) and Bikoshito Nari Shangha, France yesterday jointly organised a human chain and discussion meeting at Banasree in the city marking the International Women’s Day-2017 focusing the theme “Be Bold for Change” in this year. Immigrants in France and returnees from different countries of Middle-east, a group of women have participated in these events. They demanded for establishing women’s rights and social dignity at home and abroad through demonstrating banners, colorful festoons and placards. Syeda Toufika Shahed, President , Bikoshito Nari Shangha, France attended as the Chief Guest in the event. Dr. Afroja Parvin, Executive Director , NUS presided over the meeting . In her speech, Dr. Afroja clarified significance of the day and call for establishing gender equity in the society. Md. Shahed Ali, immigrant in France and Sanu Bhuiyan, Secretary of Bikoshito Nari Shangha, France took part as the Chief discussants and they strongly urged to government for ensuring the women’s security and to stop sexual harassment in all places. NUS Advisor Dr Sultan Muhammad Razzak and Project Coordinators Shaheda Wahab and Abdul Momin attended and spokes the event.
University Grants Commission
Prof John Wood CBE FREng, Secretary General, Association of Commonwealth Universities called on Prof Abdul Mannan, Chairman, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh at the latter’s office yesterday. Prof Dr. Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, VC , World University Bangladesh (WUB), Prof Dr. Nurul Islam, Pro- VC , WUB, Mrs. Morsheda Chowdhury, Treasurer, WUB and Prof Dr. Mushfiq Mannan Chowdhury were present in the meeting. UGC Chairman welcomed Prof John at his office and briefed him about the functions and activities of UGC and also higher education scenario of Bangladesh. During the meeting, they discussed various aspects of higher education of Bangladesh and commonwealth countries including accreditation council, tuition fees and students’ enrolment. UGC Chairman informed Prof John that the Bangladesh Government has passed the accreditation council act very recently for quality enhancement at tertiary level.
