Bangabandhu Gabeshona Parishad
A discussion and rally organised by Bangabandhu Gabeshona Parishad was held at 32, Dhanmondi in the city on Tuesday marking the historic March 7. The parishad paid tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing floral wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu on the occasion. In the programme the speakers said that the March 7 speech was the source of inspiration. This speech provided strength among the pro-liberation forces in 1971. They said that Bangabandhu basically declared independence of Bangladesh through this historic speech. The March 7 speech was the charter of emancipation of the Bengali nation, they added. The function was addressed, among others, by Poet Kazi Rozy,MP, Amatul Kibria Keya Chowdhury, Vice-Chairman of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council Ismat Kadir Gama, President of the parishad Lion Mohammad Gani Miah Babul, its Vice-President Nurul Islam Talukder and its Central Executive Member Mohammad Dulal Miah. A Doa Mahfil was also held for the salvation of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his other family members who were assassinated. President of the organisation Lion Gani Miah Babul presided over the event.
Workers Party of Bangladesh
Different organisations including Workers Party of Bangladesh, Awami League (AL), Gono Azadi League, Gonotantri Party and Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal on Monday demanded of giving recognition to the 25th March as “Genocide Day” at the current session of Jatiya Sangsad. “We demand of giving recognition to March 25th as Genocide Day,” Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim told a press conference emerging from a meeting at the AL president’s political office at Dhanmondi in the city. Chaired by Workers Party President and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, the meeting was joined by Jatiya Party (JP) Secretary General Sheikh Shahidul Islam and Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Dilip Barua, Convenor of the Communist Party of Bangladesh Dr Wazedul Islam Khan, Gono Azadi League leader SK Sikder, Tarikat Federation leader MA Awal and Gonotantri Party leader Dr Shahadat Hossain, among others. The AL presidium member also expressed his hope that the proposal will be placed in the parliament session on March 11. About the next national election, the minister said they have no scope to go beyond constitution over the issues of conducting election and election-period government. “As per the constitution, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will lead the election period government,” he said.
