Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal
A meeting organised by the city unit of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) was held at Taher Auditorium in the city’s Bangabandhu Avenue on Friday. President of JSD and also Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said that those who were saying election could not be held without Khaleda Zia’s participation, were trying to push the country beyond constitutional rule. The minister recalled the great leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the crucial stage of the movement in 1971. Inu also recalled the sacrifice of all those in 1971 and before to create a nation for Bengalis. He particularly recalled the role of the student leaders who had formed a “nucleus” in the ’60s to attain the goal of independence. The minister criticized those who had opposed the Bengali nationalist movement. “They are the same people who opposed celebration of Bengali culture also,” he said. Referring to the current political situation in the country Inu said that some people were trying to push the country beyond constitutional rule. “But”, he assured the people “election would be held on schedule.” He further said “We’ve defeated them in ’52, ’54, ’69 and ’71 and we will defeat them again, now.” The function was addressed, among others, by party General Secretary Shirin Akhter, MP, and other party leaders.
Sahitya Sangskritik Parishad
A memorial meeting on Sangku Samajhder organised by Sahitya Sangskritik Parishad, Rangpur unit was held on its office premises in Rangpur on Friday in observance of the 46th martyrdom anniversary of Sangku, a student of class six. In the meeting the speakers recalled the martyrdom of Sangku. The nation would remember forever the supreme sacrifice of Sangku Samajhder, who embraced martyrdom on March 3, 1971 in Rangpur while taking part in a rally in a massive curfew, the speakers added. With President of the parishad Aftab Hossain in the chair, Sangku’s mother Dipali Samajhder attended the function as the chief guest. She was also accorded reception on the occasion. While speaking Dipali Samajhder said, “I still remember Sangku and feel proud of my heroic son who first embraced martyrdom on March 3, 1971 in the process of achieving independence for the whole nation.” The programme was also addressed, among others, by Adviser of the organisation Monwar Hossain, its former Presidents Dr Mofizul Islam Mantu, Anwarul Islam Raju & Professor Shah Alam and its General Secretary Sunil Sarker.
