Samyabadi Dal of Bangladesh
A seminar on ‘Life and Work of late Comrade Mohammad Toaaha’ organised by Samyabadi Dal of Bangladesh (Marxist-Leninist) was held at the Jatiya Press Club auditorium on the 19th instant. Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said that Comrade Mohammad Toaaha was a great patriot. “He fought for nationalist causes and for an egalitarian society.” Paying glowing tributes to the late leader, he said “I had the good fortune of working with him in the ’80s. He aspired for a Bangladesh that was free of communalism and nationalist in spirit.” “Comrade Toaaha believed that uninterrupted development and prosperity were only possible if there was no class distinction in society, “the minister said. Inu said it was because of Mohammad Toaaha’s ideals that people respected and remembered him. He also paid his last respects to Mohammad Toaaha and all the martyrs who had sacrificed their lives so that Bangladesh could emerge as an independent, democratic, secular and egalitarian society. Collumnist Syed Abul Maksud, who was the special guest on the occasion, recollected Mohammd Toaaha’s early days in politics and how he played a crucial role in organizing the Jubo League – a front organisation of the communists of the day. Former Industries Minister Comrade Dilip Barua presided over the function.
Bangabandhu Parishad
A discussion on ‘Language Movement and Bangabandhu’ organised by Bangabandhu Parishad was held recently at the CIRDAP Auditorium in the city’s Topkhana Road. Minister for Science and Technology Yeafesh Osman was present as the chief guest. While speaking Yeafesh said the nation has got their rights and an independent country as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born. Bangabandhu was the great hero of the language movement and six-point movement and he called for the Liberation War. Recalling Bangabandhu’s life-long struggle for the emancipation of the Bangalees, the minister said Bangabandhu had established an independent and sovereign state based on Bangalee nationhood in place of a religion-based country. The programme was addressed, among others, by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique, Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mizanuddin, Kabi Nazrul University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mohitul Alam, Jatiya Press Club President M. Shafiqur Rahman and journalist leader Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan. Prof. Dr. Abu M Delwar of Dhaka University presented a keynote paper. General Secretary of the parishad Dr. SA Malek presided over the function.
