An exhibition of a 52-minute documentary ‘Taher’s Testament’ organised by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) was held on the premises of Teachers’-Students’ Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University on the 13th instant. The film traced the life of Taher and his martyrdom. Information Minister and also JSD President Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said with the passage of time the history that was crushed under a stone is gradually surfacing. The injustices of military ruler Ziaur Rahman are gradually coming into the open, he said. The minister said Zia not only killed Colonel Taher but also killed the Constitution. He also sent Bangabandhu and the history of the Liberation War into exile. He also imported Razakars. Inu said that the Courts had rightly identified Zia as a cold-blooded murderer & villain and hailed Taher as a great patriot. “Col. Taher was immortal and would remain so”, he added. The event was also addressed, among others, by Lutfa Taher, widow of Col. Taher. Chief executive of the film-making organisation “Docuframe”, Abul Kalam Azad presided over the function.
Disabled Volunteer Society
A discussion organised jointly by Disabled Volunteer Society and National Forum of Organisations Working with Disabled (NFOWD) was held recently at a community center in Rajshahi. In the programme the speakers unanimously called for ensuring inclusive education for the children with disabilities and other special needs for establishing their fundamental rights in the society. They viewed that their overall livelihood and development couldn’t be possible until social and educational integration is ensured substantially. Various issues on ensuring standard services to the challenged children inmates in different institutions were discussed elaborately. Commissioner-in-Charge of Rajshahi division Munir Hossain addressed the workshop as the chief guest with PSS Executive Director Akbar Ali in the chair. Deputy Director of Department of Social Services Rubina Yeasmin, Additional Superintendent of Police Sumit Chowdhury, President of Shaw-Unnayan Mustafizur Rahman Khan, NFOWD Coordinator Mosharraf Hossain and Deputy Principal Information Officer Bidhan Chandra Karmaker also spoke. While speaking Munir Hossain said the present government particularly Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much positive towards betterment of the challenged children. He also adds Saima Wazed Putul, daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly globally to establish rights of the children with special needs particularly the autistics.
