Bangladesh Hawkers’ Union
A rally organised by Bangladesh Hawkers’ Union was held in front of Muktibhaban in the city’s Purana Palton on Monday. In the rally the union leaders bitterly criticized the eviction of hawkers. They demanded immediate rehabilitation of the hawkers before their eviction. The leaders also demanded withdrawal of false cases filed against the leaders and activists of the union and release of the leaders and activists who were arrested earlier. After the rally a procession brought out by the union paraded different streets of the city to meet their demands. The programme was addressed, among others, by Adviser of the Bangladesh Hawkers Union Joly Talukder, leaders of the union Hazrat Ali, Mohammad Titu, Mohammad Hanif, Azizul Islam and Billal Hossain. Central leader of the organisation Jasim Uddin presided over the programme. Hawkers’ leader Golap conducted the rally.
Workers’ Party of Bangladesh
Leaders and activists of different political parties and labour organisations paid rich tributes to Hafizur Rahman Bhuyian, a polit bureau member of Workers’ Party of Bangladesh and also President of National Labour Federation at a ceremony organised by Workers’ Party of Bangladesh at its central office in the city’s Topkhana Road on Monday. His body was brought in front of Workers Party central office on Monday morning to allow cross section of people to have a last glimpse and pay tributes to Rahman. Hafizur Rahman died on Sunday at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) while he was undergoing treatment there. He left behind his wife, a daughter, two sons and a host of well-wishers and relatives to mourn his death. On behalf of Awami League, General Secretary and Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader placed floral wreaths on the coffin of Rahman. AL’s Labour Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Organising Secretary Enamul Haq Shamim, Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain and Relief and Social Welfare Affairs Secretary, among others, were present during this time. On behalf of 14-party alliance, Health Minister Mohammad Nasim, on behalf of Workers Party, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon and on behalf of Communist Party, Mujahidul Islam Selim, among others, also placed floral wreaths on the coffin of Rahman.
