Hawkers’ Coordination Council
A rally organised by Bangladesh Hawkers’ Coordination Council was held on the premises of Ramna Bhaban in the city yesterday. While speaking the leaders of the council demanded rehabilitation of the hawkers before their eviction. The hawkers’ leaders warned to forge greater movement if their demand is not met immediately. The hawkers’leaders assured that they would cooperate all the development activities of Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon if he takes step to stop eviction of hawkers from footpath before their rehabilitation. The council also brought out a procession which paraded different streets in the city to press home their demands. The rally was addressed, among others, by hawkers’ leaders, Harun-or-Rashid, Abul Hossain, Kamal Siddiqui, Arif Chowdhury, Saijuddin Miah, Sarder Khorshed, Abdul Mannan and Khairul Bashar. The speakers called upon all the leaders and activists of the council to remain united to meet their demands.
Roads & Highways Engrs Assoc
Annual conference of Roads and Highways Engineers Association was held on the premises of Sarak Bhaban in the city on the 2nd instant. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was present as the chief guest. While speaking Quader said the President will reconstitute the Election Commission as he holds the absolute authority to do that. “Search Committee will recommend names to the President for reconstituting election commission. We have no authority in this regard,” he added. The minister urged the roads and highways engineers to work with utmost sincerity for the betterment of common people.”If you (engineers) do good work, your reputation will be spread to all, on the other hand, your bad activities will earn bad image for you,” he said. In his address, the minister assured the engineers that every logical demand will be fulfilled. The function was addressed, among others, by Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary MAN Siddique, Roads and Highways Department Chief Engineer Ebne Alam Hasan and General Secretary of Engineers Institution of Bangladesh Engineer Abdus Sabur. President of the association Engineer AQM Iqram Ullah presided over the event.
