Dhaka Community Medical College
Students of Dhaka Community Medical College (DCMC) distributed warm clothes among the poor and destitute people of Dhaka city and nearby areas recently, says a press release. DCMC Principal Prof Dr. Tofael Ahmed inaugurated programme in DCMC. While addressing the inauguration meeting, the Principal said, “If the well-off people come forward a step to provide assistance to the poor, human suffering would be eradicated from the society”. Mozammel Haque Jhalak, a student of DCMC, said, ” Like other years we are distributing warm clothes among winter-hit poor people under social welfare activities in guidance by our principal and inspiration from our teachers”.

Center for Enterprise and Society (CES) of University of Liberal Arts (ULAB) organised a report launching ceremony for its survey entitled “Shopper Survey on E-commerce in Bangladesh: Perception, Demand & Usage Trends.” yesterday. The survey, conducted towards the end of 2016, encompassed shoppers in Dhanmondi, Uttara, Mirpur and Gulshan, across age, sex, professional and other demographic groups. The launching ceremony was attended by Professor Imran Rahman, Vice Chancellor, ULAB; Mr. Fahim Mashroor, Founder and CEO of BDjobs.com and Ajkerdeal.com; Mr. Minhaz Anwar, Head of Grameenphone Accelerator and Founder and Managing Director, Better Stories Ltd; Sajid Amit, Director, CES, ULAB, other faculty members at ULAB, and an auditorium packed with students. The launching ceremony comprised of a presentation delivered by the CES Team followed by a panel discussion. The study covered topics such as shopper knowledge levels about e-commerce, access to internet, frequency of visits and online purchases, days when purchases are made, transaction size, motivations for buying online, F-commerce, ease of navigation, inventory management, customer support and feedback, delivery mechanisms and satisfaction levels. The presentation was well-received by the visiting guests and a follow-up nationwide study covering rural Bangladesh, was encouraged, says a press release.
 University Grants Commission
As a part of three-day visit to Rangamati Science and Technology University, UGC Chairman, Prof Abdul Mannan visited the permanent site of the university in Rangamati and addressed the faculty members and the students of the university. He was received at the temporary office of the university by the Vice-chancellor Dr. Pradanendu Bikash Chakma and the faculty members. The University which started its academic programmes in November of 2015 is currently housed in a part of Shah Multipurpose High School. The university currently has about two hundred students enrolled in two departments, Department of Management and Department of Computer Science, with only eight faculty members. In the meantime sixty-four acres of land has been acquired by the government from the local land owners. After the completion of the process of land acquisition the construction of the infrastructure and academic and administrative buildings will soon begin the UGC Chairman expected. Prof Mannan also met the cross section of local community leaders, the high officials of district administration including the DC, local Brigade Commander of Bangladesh Army and Superintendent of Police. UGC Chairman sought co-operation of all concerned in making the local university a centre of excellence. The community leaders, the faculty members and the students hailed the initiative of the UGC and its chairman, says a press release.
