A rally organised by the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) was held in front of Muktibhaban in the city’s Purana Palton on Friday marking the 16th anniversary of Palton massacre of the CPB. In the programme President of CPB Mujahidul Islam Selim was present as the chief guest. While speaking Mujahidul said a vested quarter killed five comrades in Palton grand rally aiming at stopping the advancement of CPB. Those who were murdered in the rally had played a pioneering role to build exploitation-free society, he added. CPB leaders paid rich tributes to the martyred by placing floral wreaths at the temporary built altar of the martyred. The rally was also addressed, among others, by General Secretary of CPB Comrade Syed Abu Zafar Ahmed, CPB presidium member Comrade Haider Akbar Khan Rano, Sajjad Zahir Chandan. Leaders of the different organisation including General Secretary of Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) Comrade Khalequzzaman, General Secretary of Ganoforum Mostofa Mohsin Mantu and Senior Joint Secretary General of BNP Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed also placed floral wreaths at the altar built for the martyred marking the occasion.  
Bangabandhu Academy for Poverty Alleviation & Rural Dev
The first meeting of board of governors of Bangabandhu Academy for Poverty Alleviation and Rural Development (BAPARD), Gopalganj was held recently at the conference room of Local Government Division in the city. In the programme LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain was present as the chief guest. In the meeting Mosharraf directed the leaders of BAPARD to formulate its specific goals for poverty alleviation and improvement of living standard of the people in the south-western part of the country. “BAPARD will conduct research programmes and qualitative trainings to create more skilled manpower,” he said. State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga, Local Government Division Secretary Abdul Malek, Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Secretary Dr Prashanta Kumar Roy, BAPARD Acting Director General Ananda Chandra Biswas, board members and officials, among others, joined the meeting. Mosharraf asked all concerned of the academy to devise work-plan to take ahead the institution as it can contribute to the betterment of the country. He underscored the need for creating more skilled and trained manpower to make Bangladesh a middle income country by 2021.
