Friendship
An agreement of cooperation has been signed between Department of Development Studies, University of Dhaka (DDSDU) and Friendship at the Asaaduzzaman Multipurpose Room of Social Sciences Building at Dhaka University, says a press release. Dr. Mohammad Abu Eusuf, Chairman of DDSDU and Ms. Runa Khan, Founder and Executive Director of Friendship signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations while Dr. Taiabur Rahman, Professor, Department of Development Studies, University of Dhaka and Kazi Amdadul Hoque, Director-Strategic Planning of Friendship witnessed the agreement. Marc Elvinger, Chairman of Friendship Luxembourg and Mr. Kenneth Hay, Chairman of Friendship UK were also present on this occasion. Under this agreement DDSDU and Friendship aim to stimulate and facilitate the development of collaborative and mutually beneficial programmes to enhance the intellectual development of both academic and implementation fields. Such cooperation will help in enhancement of knowledge and expertise in Development Studies in general as well as learn from practical experiences of Friendship how lives of marginalized communities in remote chars and coastal areas are impacted.
Foundation for Learning, Teaching and Research
Foundation for Learning, Teaching and Research (FLTR) has successfully completed first batch of Certificate Curse on Teaching for Active Learning (TAL) from 5 to 7 January at Seminar Room of Green University of Bangladesh. A total of 42 faculty members from 6 public and 14 private universities attended in the course. The course was designed for orienting and developing teaching and learning skills of senior and junior faculty members of different universities.Professor Emeritus Dr. Serajul Islam Chowdhury, University of Dhaka was present as Chief Guest and Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Chairperson, fLTR was present as the Chair of the closing session.Prof. Dr. Md. Golam Samdani Fakir, Director of the Course and VC of GUB provided overall guidance and acted as lead facilitator for the course. Some eminent educationists facilitated different sessions of the course. They were Prof. Syed Saad Andaleeb, VC, BRAC University; Dr Manzoor Ahmed, Prof Emeritus, BRAC University; Prof. Dr. Md. Mozahar Ali, Director, GTI, Bangladesh Agricultural University; Prof. Syed Manzoorul Islam, DU; Prof. Yousuf M Islam, VC, Daffodil International University; Dr. Shakib Ahsan, Director, CETL, ULAB; and Md. Iqbal Hasan, Sr. Lecturer &Mr. Hasan Al ZubayerRonyLecturerof GUCETL of Green University.
Poribesh Forum
The students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on the banner of ‘Poribesh Forum’ formed a human chain protesting the construction of Institute of Information Technology (IIT) building by filling the lakes and ponds here at the campus at 11.30 am on Sunday. Over 100 students attended the event in front of Physics Department. On the human chain the protesters express concern on natural environment of the campus and alleging the university authorities are going to construct a multi store building filing the lakes. They demanded to stop the anti-environmental activities.
Earlier, on January 2, JU VC Prof Farzana Islam laid down the foundation stone of a multi-storage building for the Institute Information and Technology (IIT) in a water surrounded body besides JU Physics Department.
