Bangladesh Shikshak Samity
A rally organised by Bangladesh Shikshak Samity was held at Victoria Park in the city on Sunday. In the programme the speakers urged the government to give 5% increment of the salary of non-government teachers and employees all over the country. They also demanded for the nationalisation of the jobs of all teachers and employees of all non-government educational institutions and Boishakhi allowance. After the rally a memorandum was submitted to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through the Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka district. The function was addressed, among others, by General Secretary of Bangladesh Shikshak Samity Mohammad Abul Kashem.
Jatiya Kabita Parishad
A press conference organised by Jatiya Kabita Parishad was held at the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) of Dhaka University on Saturday. In the programme the organisers reached a consensus to hold the annual National Poetry Festival on the premises of Dhaka University Central Library on February 1 and 2 next. Poet Belal Chowdhury will inaugurate the festival at 10 am on February 1. President of the parishad Poet Dr Mohammad Samad announced the programme in the function. General Secretary of the parishad Tariq Sujat read out the written statement. “Poets from all the 64 districts of the country can recite their poems after making registration,” Samad said. He requested the poets to register their names by submitting a copy of their poems to the organisers. The registration is open at DU TSC 2nd floor office from 4pm to 8pm everyday. The two-day festival would feature elaborate programmes including recitation from poems, songs on Ekushey, seminar, discussion and exhibition on poets and poetry. Poets from India, China and Sweden are expected to join the festival, he added. Poets Rabiul Hussain, Habibullah Siraji, Kazi Rozy, MP, Sajjad Kadir, Aslam Sunny and Dilara Hafiz, among others, presented the different aspects of the festival.
