Bangladesh Mahila Parishad
President and General Secretary of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Ayesha Khanom and Maleka Banu respectively in a joint statement on Sunday expressed grave concern over the death of pedestrian Shipra Kundu in Khulna. The parishad bitterly criticized this heinous crime and urged the government to give exemplary punishment to the culprits involved in this crime.

The 114th birth anniversary of Palli Kabi Jasimuddin was observed at his ancestral village Gobindapur in Faridpur district on Sunday. Different organisations including Jasim Foundation and Faridpur district administration jointly chalked out elaborate programme which included placing of floral wreaths at his ‘mazar’, discussion on poet’s life and works and Doa Mahfil. Faridpur district administration, Jasim Foundation, district Shilpakala Academy, Faridpur Sahitya & Sanskriti Unnayan Sangstha and Faridpur Shahitya Parishad and several other socio-cultural organisations placed floral wreaths at the ‘mazar’ of the poet. In the discussion the speakers termed the literary creativity of the poet as unique as his writings projected the rural Bengal so vividly which is unparallel in our literature.They also mentioned that his works narrating rural life of common people were earlier translated into foreign languages. The programme was addressed, among others, by Police Super Subhash Chandra Saha, late poet’s youngest son Khurshid Anowar, newly elected Chairman of Faridpur Zila Parishad Lokman Hossain and Diabetic Association Secretary Prof. Shaikh Abdus Samad. The discussion was followed by a ‘Doa Mahfil’.
