Progressive Nationalist Party
The national council of the Progressive Nationalist Party (PNP) was held at its office in the city on Saturday with a view to implementing its 21-point programmes. Former Communications Minister and Chairman of Bangladesh National Alliance (BNA) Barrister Nazmul Huda was present as the chief guest. In the programme the speakers expressed their opinion over the country’s ongoing political situation. In the council the previous committee of the PNP was dissolved. The attended delegates coming from different districts unanimously declared the name of Firoj Mohammad Liton as the new Chairman of PNP. The newly elected chairman declared the names of Ahmedur Rahman, Mirza Selim Hossain and Kawser Chowdhury Halim as the party’s presidium members. Former Chairman of the organisation Mohammad Anisur Rahman Dewan presided over the event.
Brotee Samaj Kalyan Sangstha
An experience sharing meeting with a call to ensure human rights of the poor through providing legal aid service organised by Brotee Samaj Kalyan Sangstha (BSKS) was held at a local restaurant in Rajshahi on Saturday. In the programme the speakers stressed upon the need for taking up adequate measures to advocate vigorously the existing system of cost-free legal aid services among poor and distressed population to ensure justice for the underprivileged. They pointed out that various development organisations at present are implementing need-based projects in order to provide legal aid services to the poor and distressed litigants including the ethnic minorities free of cost apart from the government services. They said the voluntary organisation had been developed for providing legal service as it was an effective way for large-scale promotion of alternative dispute resolution for the poor and vulnerable. The function was addressed, among others, by President of Rajshahi Bar Association Nazmus Sadaat, Additional Superintendent of Police Ahmad Ali, Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat, cultural activist Munira Rahman Mithi and Training & Communication Coordinator of BSKS Razendra Kumar Das.
