A discussion organised jointly by Center for Services and Information on Disability (CSID) and Save the Children was held on Thursday at the Daily Star Bhaban in the city. In the programme the speakers recommended for increasing budget allocation for the welfare of children. They said that country’s 45 per cent of the total population are children, the budget for children under all ministries including Education, Health, Cultural Affairs, Sports, Labour, Employment and Social Welfare should be raised. They said active participation of the local government representatives should be ensured for implementing the budgetary allocation for the children. The speakers laid importance on ensuring child rights and prioritizing their needs. Recommendations made in the discussion would be placed before the upcoming budget session of the parliament to increase budget outlay of all the ministries for the children. They also said there is no alternative to raising the budget allocation for ensuring protection and development of the children.The function was addressed, among others, by Center for Budget and Policy Director Dr N Abu Yousuf, Labour Welfare Foundation Director General Anisul Awal and CSID Executive Director Khandoker Zahrul Alam. Poet Quazi Rozi, MP presided over the event.
Bangladesh Gano Azadi League
A discussion on the inauguration of Muktijuddher Bijoy Manch organised by Bangladesh Gano Azadi League was held at the Liberation War Museum in the city’s Segunbagicha on the 26th instant. Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq was present as the chief guest. While speaking Mozammel said the country will prosecute 195 identified Pakistani war criminals. “Though we are bringing the people of our country those committed crimes against humanity in 1971, to justice, but we are yet to try the 195 identified war criminals from Pakistan. But we will do it certainly and if necessary, we will go to the international court for that,” he added. The minister said that militancy was patronized in our country in the past when anti-liberation elements were in power. But the present government is committed to eliminate militancy and build a non-communal Bangladesh by ensuring equal rights for people of all religions. President of the organisation Advocate SK Shikder presided over the programme.
