BD Faecal Sludge Management Network
A national convention aiming to learn and share the national work and progress on faecal sludge management (FSM) organised by the Bangladesh Faecal Sludge Management Network (FSM Network) was held on Thursday in the city’s LGED Auditorium.The event was organised to ensure a safe and sustainable faecal sludge management system in Bangladesh for improved public health and living environment for all by 2030. In the function the speakers noted that Bangladesh has achieved remarkable feat of near-elimination of open defecation. They mentioned about the potential of FSM to transform Bangladesh’s sanitation and health landscape. Speakers said, “FSM needs to be incorporated in the government planning processes at the town and city levels along with support solutions in the rural context.” The programme was addressed, among others, by A S M Mahbubul Alam, Director General and Additional Secretary (Monitoring, Inspection & Evaluation Wing), Local Government Division, Martine van Hoogstraten, Deputy Head of Mission, Head of Economic Affairs and Development Cooperation, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, Prof M Ashraf Ali, Director, ITN-BUET and Prof Mujibur Rahman of BUET.
Jatiya Krishak Party
The biennial conference of the Jatiya Krishak Party, Manikganj District unit was held at the Shaheed Muktijoddha Smriti Soudha premises in the town on Thursday. In the programme the speakers urged the party leaders and activists to be united to strengthen the hands of party Chief HM Ershad. The conference was inaugurated by former Member of the Parliament SM Abdul Mannan. The programme was addressed, among others, by Jatiya Party Presidium Member and President of Jatiya Krishak Party Shahidur Rahman Tepa, Organising Secretary, Jatiya Party of the central committee Md Zahirul Alam Rubel and Secretary of Manikganj District Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Afzal Hossain Khan Joki. District Agriculture Affairs Secretary of the organisation Mizanur Rahman presided over the function.
