Nutan Chandra Smrity Parishad
Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Abdul Mannan was awarded ‘Shaheed Nutan Chandra Singha-2016 Gold Medal’ for his outstanding contribution in the education sector at a ceremony organised by Nutan Chandra Smrity Parishad at Kundeshwari Vidya Mandir in Gohira under Chittagong district on December 1 last.Youngest son of Shaheed Nutan Chandra Singha, Profullah Ranjan Singha handed over the medal to Professor Mannan. The function was addressed, among others, by Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University (CU) Professor Dr. Iftikhar Uddin Chowdhury as the chief guest. Acting President of Nutan Chandra Smrity Parishad Dr. Souren Biswas presided over the programme. Principal Nutan Chandra Singha was killed by the Pakistani collaborators in 1971 during offering prayer at his family temple.
Bangladesh Ovibashi Adhikar Forum
A discussion on ‘Divisional Migrant Rights Network and Consultation on Global Forum on Migration and Development’ jointly organised by Bangladesh Ovibashi Adhikar Forum (BOAF) and WARBE Development Foundation (WDF) in association with Promoting Knowledge for Accountable Systems, British Council, UKAID and Bangladesh Civil Society Coordination Committee was held recently at a restaurant in Rajshahi.. In the programme the speakers called for protection and promotion of the rights of migrants saying that there should be a general agreement on shared responsibility to address migration situations all around the world. They viewed that migrants’ rights have to be secured in all situations irrespective of their status and for harmony across our diverse societies. They said mutual trust and respect, shared responsibility and inclusiveness are critical to address migration comprehensively. “We must have a general agreement on these universal principles,” they added. The function was addressed, among others, by Additional Secretary to Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry Zabed Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Kazi Ashraf Uddin, BOAF Chairman Nazmul Ahsan and WDF Representative Saiful Haque. Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Abdul Hannan presided over the programme.
