Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal
A discussion in observance of Dr Milon Day organised by Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) was held at the Taher auditorium in the city on Saturday. In the programme General Secretary of JSD Shirin Akhter, MP was present as the chief guest. While speaking Shirin recalled the valiant sacrifice of Shaheed Dr Shamsul Alam Khan Milon in the fight against autocracy. She hoped that professionals, colleagues and inheritors of Dr Milon’s legacy would continue their fight against the remnants of autocracy. The event was addressed, among others, by Vice- Presidents of JSD Mir Hossain Akhter, Iqbal Hossain Khan and Habibur Rahman Shawkat, former Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) and Chairman of JSD’s advisory wing, Dr M A Karim. Shirin Akhter also presided over the function.

Indigenous Knowledge
A dialogue titled ‘Environment Protection and Conservation and expansion of Local Sports” organised jointly by Bangladesh Resource Center for Indigenous Knowledge (BARCIK) and Bilnepalpara Farmers Club was held on Bilnepalpara School premises under Paba Upazila in Rajshahi. In the programme speakers voiced for time-befitting and effective measures for conservation of both biodiversity and cultural diversity in the vast Barind tract. They mentioned that the diversities are gradually declining now due to various natural and man-made catastrophes posing a serious threat to the whole ecosystem. So, there should be a campaign and state-level interventions in this regard. The discussants said that collective efforts of all government and non-government organisations concerned is very much important to protect and conserve the biodiversity. The function was addressed, among others, by Ayen Uddin, MP, college teacher Golam Masud, school teachers Ruhul Amin Siddiqui and Md Ashrafuzzaman and farmers Abdur Rahim and Nurul Amin. President of Bilnepalpara Farmers Club Anwarul Islam presided over the event.
