A discussion organised jointly by Govinda Dev Center for Philosophical Research and Dhaka University (DU) Philosophy Department was held at the seminar room of the Philosophy Department of DU marking the World Philosophy Day. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique was present as the chief guest. While speaking Arefin called for instilling humanitarian values into students mind as they can play important role in establishing peace in the society. “Philosophy should not be confined into the department only, rather students should be provided its universal moral values,” the Vice-Chancellor said. Arefin said noted philosophers in the world played a pivotal role to establish peace, harmony and humanism in the world and they are always vibrant against deadly wars. He urged the students to follow the ideals of world renowned philosophers to become proper human beings with humanitarian qualities and wisdom. The function was also addressed, among others, by Pro-Vice Chancellor (academic) Prof Nasreen Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman and Arts Faculty Dean Prof Begum Akhtar Kamal. Chairman of the Philosophy Department Prof Pradip Kumar Roy presided over the programme.
Bangladesh Scouts
A memorandum of understanding on corruption prevention was signed between Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Bangladesh Scouts in the city recently. ACC Director General Dr Md Shamsul Arefin and Bangladesh Scouts Executive Director (acting) Arshadul Mukaddis singed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions. ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood, senior Home Secretary Dr Mozammel Haque Khan and former Secretary of Establishment Ministry (now Public Administration Ministry) Abdus Salam also joined the signing ceremony. The ACC Chairman called for curbing corruption to speed up the country’s development and progress.
