A discussion on ‘Role of Media To Resist Terrorism’ organised by Weekly Newspapers Council was held at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU). Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said terrorists are enemies of the media as they carry out attacks on common people, government, journalists and others as well. Inu said it is very ridiculous that patron of terrorists are asking for election and democracy. “Election is not a platform to legitimize terrorism. The next election should be a competition within pro-liberation forces-not patriots versus Rajakars,” he said. The minister said those who set fire on democracy, the system never be safe in possession of them. Inu lauded the continuous role of media against the terrorism, arson attacks, autocracy and mayhem of Hefajat-e-Islam. About different demands of Weekly. Newspapers Council, Inu said all journalists are equal to the government; whatever they work for daily, weekly or monthly newspapers or electronic media. The function was addressed, among others, by Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) President Shaban Mahmood, Joint General Secretary of the council MA Motalib Hossain. General Secretary of the council SM Morshed presided over the event.
BD Academy for Rural Dev
A five-member committee of Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD)has been formed headed by an Additional Secretary to Department of Rural Development and Cooperatives for evaluating overall activities of the BARD.The committee was formed at 69th managing committee meeting of BARD held recently at the conference room of Department of Rural Development and Cooperatives with LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain in the chair. State minister for LGRD and Cooperatives M Moshiur Rahman Ranga and other directors of the managing committee were present. The LGRD and Cooperatives Minister laid emphasis on making the BARD’s overall activities including training and research for time befitting and dynamic. The meeting was informed that since 2008 to June this year, a total of 33,803 people at government and private level got training through 40 courses in the academy. Besides, a number of public friendly projects including eco-toilet, environment-friendly sanitation and coordinated village development programme had been implemented.
