Cable TV Network Owners’ Assoc
A meeting between Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and the leaders of Cable TV Network Owners Association was held at the Ministry of Information on Monday. In the function Inu said a proper coordination between the cable TV network and the Direct-To-Home (DTH) services was a must to create a level playing field for both the satellite TV services providers in the country. The DTH service is a digital satellite service that provides television services direct to subscribers anywhere in the country, while cable TV network provides identical services to households through cable connections. Satellite TV programmes are generally received by the intermediary cable TV networks and distributed among consumers with a monthly rent. But the DTH system provides consumers to receive satellite programmes directly with a small dish antenna, without depending on cable operators. “We want an even competition between these two providers so that none is affected. And I want ideas and thoughts from both sides to reach an amicable solution,” the minister added. He also suggested them to inform police and other law enforcement agencies once they face threat from extortionists or terrorists. Information Secretary Mortuza Ahmed presided over the programme.
