A discussion organised by Jatiya Samajtanrik Dal (JSD) was held at the Institute of Engineers of Bangladesh (IEB) in the city on Monday marking the 44th founding anniversary of the organisation. Information Minister and also President of JSD Hasanul Haq Inu was present as the chief guest. While speaking Inu said that JSD still remains relevant as the battle against militancy needs unity and the desire for equity and good governance remains a burning issue in society. He said that his party was born to fight against disparity in society and that remains a real issue to this day. He said that his party was at the forefront for the battle against military rule and militancy and for further consolidating democracy and would continue to remain so. The programme was also addressed, among others, by Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim, former Industries Minister and also General Secretary of Samyabadi Dal Dilip Barua. The speakers urged all to forge greater unity to fight against militancy and fundamentalism to establish secularism in the country.
WaterAid Bangladesh
The inaugural function of two public toilets organised by WaterAid Bangladesh and H&M Foundation in association with Dhaka South City Corporation was held on Monday in the city’s Osmani Udyan. Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon was present as the chief guest on the occasion. While speaking Khokon announced that 500 drinking water fountains to be set up in important places of the city along with modern public toilets. “We are working for a planned public sanitation system in city and want to make it without any illegal establishment at any cost. For this, we need to be united,” he added. Swedish Ambassador in Dhaka Johan Frisell and WaterAid Bangladesh Country Director Dr Md Khairul Islam were present in the inauguration ceremony. While speaking Johan Frisell said the sanitation facility is in challenge due to extra pressure in the city. But this joint initiative of WaterAid and H&M Foundation is really encouraging. Dr Md Khairul Islam said clean public toilets are a dire need in ensuring public health.
