National Awami Party
A rally organised by National Awami Party (NAP), Rajshahi city unit was held at Saheb Bazar Zero Point in the city yesterday demanding immediate treaty of the Teesta River water for the sake of protecting living and livelihood of people living along both banks of the river. In the programme the speakers said that lives of hundreds and thousands of people and biodiversity and ecosystem of the area are totally depended on the river. So, the water treaty should be signed before the coming drought season. “Protect and Save the People and Agriculture in Teesta Banks” was the main slogan of the event. The function was addressed, among others, by President of the organisation Advocate Ali Akbar Pramanik, its district unit General Secretary Saiful Islam, local unit General Secretary of JSD Abdullah Masud Shibly and Programme Coordinator of Shaw Unnayan Tahera Khatun. The speakers urged India to sign the Teesta water sharing treaty and hoped that all pending issues with India would be solved mutually.
Sahitya O Sangskritik Parishad
A literary and cultural conference organised jointly by Sahitya O Sangskritik Parishad, Manikganj unit and Manikganj District Administration was held at Manikganj Bijoy Mela ground marking the 150th birth anniversary of Dr Dinesh Chandra Sen. Finance Minister AMA Muhith inaugurated the conference. While speaking Muhith said Dinesh Chandra Sen collected and preserved the Bengali folk literature. The literary works of Dinesh Chandra Sen have been translated in different foreign languages that have brought international reputation for him, the minister added. The function was also addressed, among others, by writer Syed Abul Maksud, Zila Parishad Administrator Golam Mohiuddin and Mayor of Manikganj Municipality Gazi Quamrul Huda Selim.
