A discussion on ‘Autism Awareness’ organised by Suchana Foundation in association with Bangabandhu Memorial Trust was held at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the city. Former Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Prof Dr Pran Gopal Datta was present as the chief guest. While speaking Pran Gopal said the government would set up shelter centers in phases in the district headquarters for the autistic children.”Autistic children are also our children. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has arranged a shelter center for the autistic children in the capital and gradually shelter centers would be set up at the district level,” he added. Dr Pran Gopal, a renowned physician and also General Secretary of Suchana Foundation, said every autistic child has potentiality and the autistic children would be mainstreamed of the society through availing their potentials. Terming Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as children friendly, Pran Gopal said Sheikh Hasina loves all the children including the physically challenged ones. About 50 autistic children and their parents participated in the function.
Family Planning Assoc of BD
A dialogue titled ‘Protect Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights” organised by Family Planning Association of Bangladesh (FPAB), Rajshahi branch was held at its office in the city yesterday. In the programme the speakers called for ensuring reproductive health rights to all schoolboys and girls for the sake of transforming them into worthy citizens. They said many of the rural boys and girls are still deprived of sexual reproductive health facilities due to various reasons, including the traditional social mindset and constraints of the service-sectors. They said getting facility is one of their fundamental rights of all irrespective of class and creed as the state is bound to provide the services properly. To attain the cherished goal, a collaborative initiative coupled with political commitment has become indispensable. Upon its successful implementation the association will contribute to improve sexual and reproductive health education in school by increasing teachers’ skills on sexuality communication and mobilizing stakeholders.
